Why Colonial Heights Residents Choose Red Light Therapy
18,170 residents. Median age 38.5. A city built on resilience since 1781. Here is who we serve and why they come back.
Boulevard Corridor Workers
The Boulevard retail strip is the economic backbone of Colonial Heights. Cashiers, managers, and service workers spend 8+ hours on their feet across Southpark Mall, Walmart, and dozens of storefronts. Red light therapy targets the chronic inflammation that standing shifts create in knees, lower backs, and feet.
Fort Lee Military Families
Fort Lee's $2.4 billion annual economic impact and 70,000 troops cycling through each year make Colonial Heights one of the primary residential communities for military families. Red light therapy supports the unique recovery needs of active-duty service members and veterans dealing with joint wear and post-deployment tension.
Young Families Starting Early
A median household income of $76,250 and housing costs 7% below the national average make Colonial Heights attractive to young families. At a median age of 38.5, residents are at the exact stage where proactive wellness delivers the biggest return.
Richmond Commuters
With I-95 running through the city, many residents commute 20 miles north to Richmond. That means sedentary desk hours bookended by highway stress. A 15-minute red light session on the way home targets the stiffness and low energy the commuter lifestyle creates.
Educators & Healthcare Workers
Colonial Heights maintains its own school district with three elementary schools, a middle school, and Colonial Heights High School. Teachers, administrators, and nearby healthcare workers carry fatigue that compounds over semesters. Red light therapy supports recovery from that sustained output.
Weekend Athletes & Trail Runners
The Appomattox River corridor and local parks give residents plenty of space to stay active. Runners, gym members, and backyard athletes all benefit from faster muscle recovery. Our 850nm near-infrared wavelength reaches deep into muscle tissue, supporting natural repair.
Colonial Heights Through the Centuries
Seven chapters of a city that keeps renewing itself.
1620 — Older Than America
English colonists sailed up the Appomattox River to Conjurer’s Neck. Colonial Heights is 156 years older than the country itself — one of the earliest English settlements after Jamestown.
1781 — The Name
General Lafayette deployed Continental Army troops on the bluffs overlooking the river. A British soldier reportedly said: “There are the Colonials, up on the Heights!” The name stuck for 245 years.
1864 — Lee’s Headquarters
General Robert E. Lee used Violet Bank as his field headquarters during the Siege of Petersburg. He held church services beneath the Cucumber Tree on the grounds. The house still stands today at 303 Virginia Avenue.
1961 — Independent City
Colonial Heights became one of only 38 independent cities in Virginia — not part of any surrounding county. It manages its own schools, police, and services for 18,170 residents across just 7.5 square miles.
1989 — Tri-Cities Retail Hub
Southpark Mall opened as an 800,000-square-foot regional destination. Today the corridor drives over $850 million in annual retail sales — the only major retail center along I-95 between Richmond and the North Carolina border.
1993 — The City That Rebuilt
An F4 tornado with 210 mph winds struck Southpark Mall, killing three, injuring 198, and causing $29.5 million in damage — the most intense tornado in Virginia history. Colonial Heights rebuilt. Recovery is what this city does.
300+ Years — The Cucumber Tree
Violet Bank Museum is home to one of the largest cucumber magnolia trees in the United States: 101 feet tall, 264-inch circumference, and featured on the official city seal. Legend holds it grew from a cutting given by Thomas Jefferson.
