What Is Photobiomodulation?

Red and near-infrared light interact with your cells in ways visible light cannot. Here’s what happens when you step into the Prism Light Pod.

1

Light Absorption

Red (660nm) and near-infrared (850nm) photons penetrate your skin at different depths. The red wavelength reaches surface tissues and skin cells, while near-infrared passes deeper — up to 30–40mm — to reach muscles, joints, and connective tissue. Both wavelengths are absorbed by cytochrome c oxidase, an enzyme embedded in your mitochondria that drives cellular energy production.

ATP Production

When photons are absorbed by cytochrome c oxidase, they help dissociate nitric oxide — a molecule that can inhibit the enzyme. This restores the electron transport chain and may boost production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the energy currency your cells use for repair, regeneration, and everyday function. Think of it as recharging your cellular batteries.

Recovery & Repair

Increased cellular energy supports multiple downstream effects: improved micro-circulation, reduced oxidative stress, and activation of anti-inflammatory pathways. Over consistent sessions, this may accelerate the body’s natural healing processes — from muscle recovery and joint comfort to collagen synthesis and skin rejuvenation.

Conditions People Explore Red Light For

Our clients come to RedLight Freedom for many reasons. Here are seven wellness goals red light therapy may support.

Pain & Joint Discomfort

Many people report reduced discomfort in joints, muscles, and connective tissue. Red light may support the body’s natural response to inflammation and stress. Our 850nm near-infrared wavelength reaches depths of 30–40mm, targeting deep joint and muscle tissue.

Sleep & Circadian Rhythm

Near-infrared light exposure during the day may support healthy melatonin patterns. Many clients report improved sleep quality and energy levels.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Our Prism Light Pod is FDA-cleared (Class II) and uses non-UV, non-invasive light. Red and near-infrared wavelengths do not damage skin like UV rays can. Most people experience zero side effects. The pod is also zero-EMF, meaning it produces no electromagnetic interference. We’ve served thousands of sessions with excellent safety records.

Because our Prism Light Pod is medical-grade, most people need just 2 sessions per week to see real results — far fewer than consumer devices require. Consistency matters more than frequency. We’ll help you find a rhythm that fits your goals and schedule. Many clients purchase session packages for convenience and savings.

Minimal clothing allows maximum skin exposure to the red and near-infrared light. Most people wear athletic shorts or undergarments. We provide a private, comfortable environment for your session — you control the door and lighting. The pod is spacious and designed for modesty. Wear whatever makes you comfortable.

Some people notice improvements within a few sessions — better sleep, reduced discomfort, or improved energy. Others see gradual changes over weeks. Results depend on your goals, consistency, and how your body responds. Think of red light therapy like exercise: you’ll benefit from a single session, but the real magic happens with regular use.

Yes. Many clients pair red light therapy with our vibration plate therapy for a powerful recovery combo. Red light supports cellular energy and circulation, while vibration supports lymphatic drainage and muscle activation. They complement each other beautifully. Ask us about combination packages.

Consult your physician first if you are pregnant, have active cancer, seizure disorders, are taking photosensitive medications, or have implanted electronic devices (pacemakers, etc.). While red light therapy is generally safe, these conditions require medical guidance. We’re happy to provide documentation for your doctor if needed.
